In many cases, users who currently have an active Remote Watch Pass or Plex Pass subscription can upgrade that subscription. That could be to change terms within the same subscription (e.g. go from monthly to yearly) or to upgrade across plans (switch from a Remote Watch Pass subscription to instead have a Plex Pass subscription).
Upgrading Within the Same Subscription
Users who already have an active Remote Watch Pass or Plex Pass subscription and wish to upgrade within the same subscription—for instance, upgrading from a monthly to yearly Plex Pass—can do so in many cases.
Choose the tab below based on where your existing subscription is billed and managed.
Users who already have a Plex subscription billed and managed directly with Plex are welcome to plan terms (e.g. from monthly to yearly) at any time. For monthly-to-yearly upgrades, the new subscription term will start automatically once the currently month ends. For Plex Pass upgrades to a lifetime Plex Pass, they will automatically receive a prorated credit for any paid subscription time remaining in the current Plex Pass subscription. To upgrade:
- Sign in to your Plex account that has the existing Pass subscription
- Go to the account Subscriptions & Payments page
- Choose the Manage subscription button on the tile for the current subscription

- On the Manage subscription page, select the desired upgrade plan and Continue

- On the summary page, review the details of the subscription upgrade and then use the Upgrade button to complete the subscription upgrade

Once the user completes the upgrade flow, they will be charged as indicated.

For users who have an active, recurring Remote Watch Pass or Plex Pass subscription billed through the App Store, you can manage that subscription through your regular App Store account subscription management. That includes being able to upgrade from a Remote Watch Pass to a Plex Pass subscription.

Note: After upgrading a subscription on your App Store account subscription management page, it can take 24-48 hours for that change to be reflected on your Plex account. This is due to limitations in app store subscription management APIs.

Downgrading Subscriptions
It is not currently possible to directly “downgrade” a subscription. For instance, it is not possible to switch from a yearly Plex Pass to a monthly Plex Pass, nor is it possible to downgrade from a Plex Pass to a Remote Watch Pass subscription.
If a user wishes to do such a “downgrade”, they can:
- Cancel renewal of your the current Plex subscription
- Wait for the subscription to expire and for it to be removed from your Plex account (usually within 24-48 hours of the expiration)
- Start a new Plex subscription on the account
