Using a Browser

First, make sure you've reviewed instructions on how to cast using a browser. You have to use the Chrome browser and you have to have the requisite extension installed.

If you still have issues, there are multiple things you can try:

  • Reset your Chrome extension
    1. Remove the "Google Cast" Chrome extension (also remove any "beta" versions of the extension)
    2. Reboot the Chromecast device
    3. Install the "Google Cast" extension again
    4. Reload the Plex Web App browser window
  • If you're using a computer connected via WiFi, try turning WiFi off and then back on again
  • If you're using a computer connected via WiFi, try connecting specifically to your 2.4GHz network rather than a 5GHz network
  • Reboot your WiFi router

Note: Even if the Chromecast extension works for other things, it can still occasionally cause problems with Plex, which are typically resolved by resetting it as noted above.

Whitelist plex.tv in Chrome's Extension Settings

While not necessary for most users, some have found that they need to whitelist the plex.tv website in Chrome's extension settings. To do so:

  1. Open Chrome's Settings, then click Show advanced settings... at the bottom.

  2. Choose the Content settings... button under Privacy.

  3. Choose the Manage exceptions... button under Plug-ins.

  4. Enter [*.]plex.tv as an option to "Allow".
