Installing MediaStream Skin

Warning!: Plex Home Theater is deprecated and no longer in development. We have focused our efforts on the newer Plex Media Player app instead and recommend moving to that app.

Users who wish to install the old MediaStream skin for Plex Home Theater can do so manually.

Warning!: Be aware that the MediaStream skin is provided as-is and is no longer in active development. The skin does not support all features of Plex Home Theater and may not support future features.

The following instructions detail how to install and select the MediaStream skin.

Download and Prepare

Download the Skin Files

  1. Visit

  2. Click on 1 release

  3. Choose the desired package and download the source code (zip or tar.gz)

Prepare the Skin Files

Now that you have downloaded the skin, you need to make sure it's ready to install.

  1. Unzip (or extract the tar.gz package) the downloaded file

  2. Rename the extracted directory to skin.mediastream


Install the Skin Files

Installing the skin is as simple as copying or moving the renamed skin.mediastream directory to the appropriate location. The exact location will vary depending on your operating system.


Open the following directory:

%APPDATA%\Plex Home Theater\addons

Place the extracted and renamed skin directory there:


Using the Finder's "Go" menu, select Go To Folder... then enter the following in the dialog box that pops up:

~/Library/Application Support/Plex Home Theater/addons/

Select the Skin

Once you have it installed, you can now select the MediaStream skin within Plex Home Theater.

  1. Open Plex Home Theater

  2. Go to Preferences

  3. Select Change Preferences for Appearance and then Advanced

  4. On the right side, use the Skin setting to choose the skin
