Item Preplay Screen

The item preplay screen provides a rich navigation experience tailored to each type of media, be it browsing related movies, accessing movie extras, finding the perfect season of Archer, or simply syncing a music track.

Movies

The preplay screen for movies offers a rich, content-filled overview for your Movie. You can access related movies based on similar characteristics, view extras, Sync the item, remotely start playing it to another Plex app or device, and even watch the trailer.

Movie Play Button

The movie play button serves a number of purposes:

  • Displays the current watched progress by way of an outer orange ring.
  • Starts playback from the beginning or resumes playback if the movie is partially watched.
  • Provides access to playback options when long-pressed.

Tip!: Long-press the play button to access the additional playback options.

Playback Options

Long-pressing on the play button provides access to the following playback options;

  • Resume from XX:XX - Shown if the movie is partially watched.
  • Start from beginning
  • Chapter Selection - Available if the movie has chapter information present.

Action Bar

The "Action Bar" offers you a range of actions.

  •  Add to Playlist - Add the movie to a new or existing Playlist.
  •  Watched/Unwatched - Cycle through the movie's watched or unwatched status.
  •  Play - Start/resume playback or long-press for secondary playback options.
  •  Sync - Sync the movie to your device.
  •  Drawer - Reveal further actions:
    •  Play Next - Queue the movie after the currently playing item.
    •  Add to Queue - Add the movie to the end of the current queue.
    •  Rating - Set a personal star rating.

Note: The Sync button will be dimmed and unavailable when it's not possible to sync. For instance, when not signed in or using a Managed User, when viewing a Cloud Sync server or the local device, or when you don't have permission to sync from the current server.

Rotten Tomatoes ratings

Rotten Tomatoes is widely considered one of the best sources for movie quality info out there. The Tomatometer™ rating and audience scores will be displayed for your movies, when available.

Tip!: If your movies aren't displaying ratings from Rotten Tomatoes, make sure you have your "Plex Movie" metadata agent set to use ratings from Rotten Tomatoes and then perform a Refresh All on your movie library.

Extras, Trailer, and Related

The movie preplay screen provides access to extras, the ability to view the main trailer, and an engaging way to discover relating content. Simply tap on the "Related" button to view related movies along with movies that share the same actor, genre, or director.

TV Shows

The preplay screen for television content expands on the same experience as Movies. You can quickly jump to a season, start playing the On Deck episode, sync unwatched episodes to your device, or even queue up the show for a viewing marathon.

Action Bar

 

The Show, Season, and Episode preplay screens share a very similar "Action Bar" that allows you to perform a number of things.

  •  Add to Playlist - Add the show, season, or episode to a new or existing Playlist.
  •  Watched/Unwatched - Cycle through the entire show or the individual episode's watched state.
  •  Shuffle - Shuffle the season. (visible only when viewing a season)
  •  Play - Start/resume playback or long-press for secondary playback options.
  •  Sync - Sync the show, season, or episode to your device.
  •  Drawer - Reveal further actions:
    •  Play Next - Queue the show, season, or episode after the currently playing item.
    •  Add to Queue - Add the show, season, or episode to the end of the current queue.
    •  Rating - Set a personal star rating for the show, season, or episode.

Note: The Sync button will be dimmed and unavailable when it's not possible to sync. For instance, when not signed in or using a Managed User, when viewing a Cloud Sync server or the local device, or when you don't have permission to sync from the current server.

Note: Shuffle is possible only when viewing a season, at which time the button replaces the Watched/Unwatched button.

Show Context Menu

By long-pressing on any season while viewing a show, you can quickly add it to your playlist or queue, begin shuffled playback, or even sync it to your device.

Season Preplay Screen

When browsing at the season level, you can instantly start playing a particular episode, view an episode's preplay screen, sync the Season, long-press on an episode to perform secondary actions, etc.

Season Secondary Actions

By long-pressing on an episode while viewing a season, you can quickly add it to your playlist or queue, start it from the beginning, or even sync it to your device.

Episode Preplay Screen

The episode level offers metadata rich details, including available audio and subtitle tracks, duration, and synopsis. You can quickly jump back to the show or season by tapping on their titles, as well as sync the individual episode.

Episode Play Button

The episode play button serves a number of purposes.

Music

The Preplay screen for music is clean, yet provides a range of options. You can read artist bios, view tour dates, find similar artists, browse their albums, and even watch their music videos!

Popular Tracks

Finding the most popular tracks for an artist is easier than ever thanks to the "Popular Tracks" area. You can quickly play a track, view the associated music video, or even add it to a playlist.

On Tour

Now you never have to leave the Plex app to know when your favourite artist will be on tour. The artist preplay page allows you to easily see upcoming tour dates and location.

Tip: The "Artists on tour" discover hub provides a convenient list of artists with upcoming tour dates.

Music Videos and Similar Artists

The Artist preplay screen also allows you to discover similar artists, and access artist videos and music videos you've added, allowing you to stream them directly to your mobile device.

Album Context Menu

By long-pressing on an album you can quickly add it to your playlist or queue, begin shuffled playback, or even sync it to your device.

Album Preplay Screen

When viewing an album's preplay screen you have the ability to play the music video for a track, return to the album artist, shuffle the album, tap on the track title to start a Plex Mix, or queue up a track. You can even add the album or track to a playlist.

Tip: You can swipe left or right on the album artwork to quickly switch between the artist's albums.

Track Music Videos

If your music videos match tracks on an album they will show up as a small video icon to the left of the track duration. Simply tap on this icon to enjoy!

Track Context Menu

By tapping on an individual track you can quickly add it to your playlist, add it to your queue, or even sync it to your device.
