Media Playback

Plex Media Player offers a clean, uncluttered media viewing experience regardless of whether you're playing videos, music, or even photos in the app. You can play music in the background while still browsing the app or viewing your photos.

Video Playback

Whether it be enjoying the latest blockbuster movie, binge watching your favorite TV Show, or even catching up on home videos, playback of your videos is presented in a distraction-free, first-class experience. You can quickly adjust playback quality, change audio tracks, select subtitles, and skip directly to another point in the video.

Playback Controls

Control the current video's playback. From left to right:

  • Playback Settings - Change the audio track, subtitle, and quality during playback.
  • Previous - Returns to the previous item in the play queue.
  • Jump Back - Jump back 10 seconds.
  • Play/Pause - Pause/resume the current video.
  • Jump Forward - Jump forward 30 seconds.
  • Next - Proceed to the next item in the play queue.
  • Stop - Stop playback and return to the previous screen.

Playback Settings

Playback quality settings can be accessed once playback is started. Here you can select another audio track and/or subtitle, as well as adjust the playback quality if desired.

Audio

Select the desired audio stream based on what is available in the current video. It is also possible to change audio track by hitting the A key on your keyboard, or bind that keypress to a button on your remote control.

Subtitles

Choose the subtitle language you wish to view, if any are available. It is also possible to change the subtitle track by hitting the L key on your keyboard, or bind that keypress to a button on your remote control.

Quality

Select the desired video quality to be used when watching a video. If you are experiencing problems with video playback, we suggest switching to a lower quality setting.

Music Playback

The fullscreen music player offers an immersive music experience. You can quickly control your music, use the play queue to jump to the current artist or album, or minimize the music player to find something else to listen to.

Playback Controls

Control the current audio's playback. From left to right:

  • Previous - Return to the beginning of the current track or (if already near the beginning of the item) return to the previous track in the play queue.
  • Play/Pause - Pause/resume the current track.
  • Next - Proceed to the next track in the play queue.
  • Stop - Stop playback and return to the previous screen.
  • Play Queue - Open the current play queue to view or manage it. For instance, you can quickly jump to another track or rearrange the queue.

Play Queue

The current play queue allows you to quickly see upcoming tracks, play the music video for a track, and quickly jump to a track's artist or album, and even start a Plex Mix. The play queue allows the user to see what items are upcoming.

Now Playing

The App offers a mini-player that allows music playback to continue while browsing the app. This can be used to allow you to find another track or album to listen to or to view and browse your photos while music is playing.

Tip!: Selecting the mini-player in the Now Playing area will quickly take you to the currently playing item in the full screen player.

Photo Playback

The fullscreen photo viewer offers a clean, uncluttered photo viewing experience. You can easily navigate back and forth though your photos or quickly jump to a specific photo using the horizontal thumbnail bar.

Playback Controls

Control playback of the currently displayed photos. From left to right:

  • Previous - Returns to the previous photo in the current album or photos.
  • Play/Pause - Pause/resume the slideshow of the photos in the current play queue.
  • Next - Proceed to the next photo in the current album or photos.
  • Stop - Stop the current slideshow and return to the previous screen.

Quick Navigation Bar

Navigate left or right to quickly find a desired photo within the current album or photos.
