For investigating some issues, we may ask you to share your logs. There are two logs generally of interest in these situations:
- Logs from the Android app
- Logs from your Plex Media Server.
Mobile Device
When you need to retrieve logs from the Android app, there are a couple of ways to do so. Emailing the logs and device data directly from the app gives you the most comprehensive information. If you have an active network connection, you can use “Network Logging”, though the information that can be logged is more limited.
Share debugging data
It’s possible to get detailed device logs and email them to a specified address.
Tip!: The Share debugging data feature is able to capture more logs than standard Network Logging and in particular can capture additional information related to video playback. If you’re specifically having video playback issues, this is almost always a better choice.
Note : Share debugging data is not available on Android TV devices. Please use Network Logging instead.
Emailing the Logs
- Sign In: Make sure you’ve signed in with your Plex account in the app under Settings > Account
- Share debugging data: Go to Settings > Help & Support> Debugging > Share Debugging Data , which will open a new pre-formatted email in your default email application. The email will have some pre-filled details as well as an attachment of the device logs.
- Enter Email Address and Send: If you’re contacted and instructed to send the email somewhere specific, enter that address as the recipient. Otherwise, you can simply send them to yourself.
Reproduce and Report the Issue
Be sure that you’ve reproduced the issue before you email the device logs.
Post a detailed description of the problem in the forums if you haven’t already. If you emailed the logs to yourself, attach them to the forum post.

Network Logging
When you enable network logging in the Android app, you’ll be able to access device logs over your local network for the next 20 minutes. You can use this to retrieve logs when you reproduce an issue.
Reproduce the Issue and Grab Logs
You’ll need to grab your app logs right after reproducing the issue. To do so:
- Reproduce the issue you’re experiencing
- In the app, go to Settings > Help & Support> Debugging and enable the Network logging setting
- In a web browser on another device/computer, go to
http://[IPofAndroidDevice]:[port]/logging
(the exact URL to use will be displayed when you enable the option) - Save the browser page as a text file or copy-paste it into a text file and save
Report the Issue
Post a detailed description of the problem in the forums if you haven’t already. Attach the text file with logs to the post.

When you need to retrieve logs from your Android TV or Amazon Fire TV device, you can do so by turning on logging, reproducing the issue, then retrieving the logs.

Plex Media Server Logs
Your Plex Media Server keeps a log file that’s often useful: “Plex Media Server.log”. Where exactly the file is stored depends on your operating system.
