Standard Naming

For this type of organization you must make a “TV” Library, not a “Home Videos” Library, though you can still call it Home Videos if you like.

The TV “Personal Media Shows” Agent lets you present a series of videos in three levels like TV Shows (TV Shows > Season > Episodes). This is useful if you have a series of related home videos–like, say, Christmas videos–and want to present them gathered together (e.g.: Year > Event > Home Videos). Related videos should be named like a TV Series:

      /2012
         Christmas - s2012e01 - Getting Ready.m4v
         Christmas - s2012e02 - Stuffing the Stockings.m4v
         Christmas - s2012e03 - Christmas Morning.m4v
      /2013
         Christmas - s2013e01 - Kids Unwrapping Presents.m4v

In this example, these “episodes” will be presented as follows:

• “Show” Name: Christmas
• Series: 2012
• Episodes: Episode 1, Episode 2, Episode 3

Note: Currently, the “shows” will only be named as “Episode 1” etc. Any additional information included in the filename (like “Getting Ready”) is currently ignored.

Using Embedded Metadata

Some video filetypes (e.g. MP4, M4V, MOV) allow you to embed metadata within the file. If your files have embedded metadata, that information can be used. To do so, ensure that the Local Media Assets source is enabled and ordered correctly.
