Program Guide

Tip!: Setting up and using a DVR or Live TV is a premium feature and requires an active Plex Pass subscription.

The Program Guide is available in supported Plex apps when you have a DVR set up and program guide data downloaded. Supported Plex apps include:

  • Amazon Fire TV
  • Android (mobile)
  • Android TV
  • iOS
  • Plex Web App

For instance, it's found in the left sidebar in Plex Web App.

Searching

One of the easiest ways to find content is simply to search for it. If you have a DVR set up, then results from the program guide will be included when you search.

If you're already in the Program Guide, the quick search results will be from Program Guide content.

Even if you're somewhere else in the app and search, the full results will also contain Program Guide items.

Browsing the Program Guide

The Program Guide is your gateway to finding content available to you on your DVR.

Discover

When you open the Program Guide, you'll be shown the Discover page by default. This page is a great place to see what's on now as well as what's coming up.

On the Discover page, you'll see a number of hubs:

  • Starting Soon - Episodes, movies, and sporting events that are starting soon.
  • On Right Now - Just what it sounds like, these are episodes, movies, and sporting events currently in progress.
  • New Episodes Tonight - New episodes that are airing for the first time today.
  • My Upcoming Shows - Upcoming episodes from shows you already have in your library or are scheduled.
  • Upcoming Movies - Movies that are starting soon.
  • Upcoming Sports - Sporting events starting soon.
  • Upcoming News - News programs that are starting soon.

From the dropdown at the top, you can also choose to browse into specific content types rather than view the Discover page.

Movies

Browse movies that are available to record. You can:

  • Filter by Year, Channel, Genre, Content Rating, Director, or Actor
  • Sort by Airing date, Release Date, or Name

News

See which news programs are available for you. When browsing, you can:

  • Filter by Year, Channel, Genre, or Content Rating
  • View by TV Shows or Episodes
  • Sort by Name or First Aired

Shows

See which television shows are available for you. When browsing, you can:

  • Filter by Year, Channel, Genre, or Content Rating
  • View by TV Shows or Episodes
  • Sort by Name or First Aired

Sports

See which sporting events are available for you. When browsing, you can:

  • Filter by Year, Channel, Genre, Content Rating, or Sport
  • View by TV Shows or Episodes
  • Sort by Name or First Aired

Recording Content or Watching Live TV

It's easy to set something to record. All you need to do is open the item (a movie, show, episode, sporting event, etc.), click the Record button, then adjust any necessary settings before confirming the recording.

If the item is currently airing, then you'll also have the option to simply Watch it live.
